Personnel ESD testing integrated with controlled entry
01 Project Background
Electronics manufacturing requires measures to protect sensitive components from electrostatic discharge (ESD) during handling and assembly. Personnel grounding and verification are important parts of this protection.
A factory within Xiaomi’s supply chain introduced an ESD gate system to incorporate personnel testing into its production-area entrance process. The project connected the ESD checkpoint with physical access control.
02 Access Requirements
The entrance needed to make the required personnel ESD check part of the entry procedure. The key objective was to connect the test result with gate release, helping prevent personnel from proceeding before meeting the entry-test requirements.
The layout also needed to give employees a clear sequence for testing and passage.
03 Integrated ESD Gate Solution
The project used an ESD gate system that combined a personnel test point with controlled pedestrian passage. Its central operating principle was to make a successful test a condition for entry.
The tester supplied the pass or fail result, while the gate provided the physical control point. Together, they linked the required check to access at the production-area entrance.
04 Entry and Testing Workflow
The intended workflow follows three stages: complete the required personnel ESD test, evaluate the result against the configured limits, and release the gate when the entry conditions are met.
If a test fails, entry remains restricted while the employee follows the site’s corrective procedure and retests. The test method and acceptance limits should follow the facility’s ESD control plan.
05 Project Value
Linking testing with gate release makes the ESD checkpoint part of the physical entry route. This approach supports a repeatable procedure for employees and helps the facility apply its entrance-testing requirements consistently.
The entrance check forms one part of a wider ESD control program, alongside appropriate grounding, protective materials, training and ongoing verification. The integration gives system designers a practical way to connect personnel testing with controlled access.
