Contactless identity verification for a corporate office entrance
01 Project Background
JD.com is a technology and service company with supply chain at the core of its business, with operations spanning retail, logistics and other services.
At its Shanghai headquarters, the customer experience department introduced speed gates integrated with facial recognition to strengthen employee access control. The project focused on bringing identity verification and pedestrian passage together at the office entrance.
02 Access Requirements
The entrance needed to support convenient access for authorized employees while helping prevent unauthorized entry. The approach also needed to reduce reliance on manual identity checks and provide a contactless way to verify users.
These requirements called for the recognition terminal and gate to operate as one access-control solution.
03 Integrated Speed Gate Solution
The installation combined speed gates with facial recognition terminals. The terminals performed identity verification, while the gates provided the physical control of pedestrian passage.
The speed gate design used acrylic barrier panels and low-voltage control. Facial recognition provided contactless identity verification at the entrance.
04 Access Control Workflow
The operating principle connects three stages: identity verification, access authorization and gate release.
An employee approaches the facial recognition terminal, the system checks identity and permission, and the speed gate opens when access is authorized.
This sequence links the electronic access decision directly to physical passage through the entrance.
05 Project Value
The installation established an identity-based access point for the department, supporting more structured employee entry and stronger control of the office entrance.
For employees, facial recognition offered a contactless interaction. For the facilities team, the gate provided a defined boundary between the approach to the entrance and the controlled office area.
The project also illustrates a configurable approach to corporate access: select the gate design for the entrance, then pair it with the identification technology required by the site.
